When do Ford cars need a transmission rebuild?

Specifically I want to know about the Ford Focus. I know that some cars need a rebuild at 60,000 miles, some can go to 80,000. I am wondering for the Ford Focus.

99% of the time, it depends on the operator and the maintenance performed, during the life of the transmission.

I had a honda with 195K miles on original engine and tranny. just take care of that engine & tranny- oil changes and tune ups.

Transmissions are like engines or any other mechanical part. Properly serviced and driven reasonably they’ll last indefinitely. I have driven cars for over 300,000 miles without having to rebuild the transmission. Poor maintenance and hard driving however, can kill one in just a few thousand miles. My current Ford Auto trans has nearly 90,000 and functions perfectly.

There’s not set maintenance interval for a transmission overhaul.
My daughter’s Focus has over a 110,000 miles with no transmission concerns.

Ford transmissions do not have an expiration date. A transmission is usually rebuilt because of a failure, not because it reached a certain amount of miles.

However the transmission is typically serviced every 60,000 miles. This usually includes a filter change and fluid flush. But I have seen vehicles where this service was never done. Or the person will wait until the filter becomes plugged and the transmission becomes sluggish.

However the best practice is to have the transmission fluid and filter serviced at the interval recommended in your owner’s manual.
