Is the Ford GT one of the best American sports cars?

I watched the Top Gear review, and found out that though American cars typically are not as good as foriegn cars, that the Ford GT is an exception to that, partially because it handles turns rather well.
Just curious what those of you on Y!A think

The Corvette is still the best American sports car. In production continuously since 1953, and you can still buy one for under $50K. The Ford GT was an extremely limited production copy of an exotic race car, and hugely expensive to buy and maintain. If it were better than Corvette, you could still buy a new one.

The Ford GT has proven that it can compete with some of the most exotic cars in the world - some of which cost many times what the GT retailed for.
And besides, in my opinion, it’s one of the hottest looking cars ever.

Yes.

Keep in mind that the Vette and Viper can also run with sports cars that are much more expensive too. They are faster than any Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, Nissan, BMW, MB, etc street car at Nürburgring. Pretty impressive considering that it has around 100 turns and American cars cant handle.

Any one who says that American are ‘typically’ as good as foreign cars better start looking around.
I think you are posting about what you saw on a TV show. Don’t ever believe something is so because it was on TV.
Ford GT won the Le Mans 24 hour race three times back in the ’60’s against the best the world had.
That’s just history. New Ford GT is a rather ’streetifed’ version of it. For $160,000 I defy any one to come with a car from anywhere that can even come close to it…
