how well do ford cars handle the snow?

i live in suburbs of chicago and am car shopping, i looked at ford escapes but seem to be out of my price range. so i was wondering how well an actual ford car performs in the snow?

I have the Ford Focus and it handles really well in snow. Like any car, you have to take it easy and go slow, but I’ve had my Focus for three winters now, and I drive on bad country roads in the snow, and I’ve only spun out once. I really like it!

With the right tires, the Escape is a good vehicle in the snow - but only the 4 wheel drive version. Otherwise, it’s just a front wheel drive and you have the same rear end wanting to sling around on ya problems.

I just got a used (but low miles and in super condition) Honda Element. Cheaper than the Escape, better gas mileage and a lot more room. Better thought out room. Real time 4 wheel drive and stability control among other options.

Everyone I’ve talked to that has the Element loves it and I have had more people ask me how I like it since I’ve had it. Was at the building supply store the other day, a guy asked me while they were loading the lumber. Was in Walmart’s parking lot and a lady two spots up from me asked; she’s had it with her van.

Snow / slush performance doesn’t vary by brand. It varies by the DRIVER, TIRES, vehicle type, weight, drive setup, suspension, TIRES and the DRIVER. Yes, I listed tires and driver’s skill twice because they matter more than the rest. As long as you have good all-season / all-weather tires and adjust your driving to match the road conditions, you can expect to be reasonably safe. Features such as stability control, traction control, AWD, or 4×4 are nice extra safety measures, but not as important as YOU and your TIRES.

Every car out there has four contact points with the ground, that is the tires. What those tires are makes the biggest difference in winter driving.

very drivable, but you will have to get some snow tires. I don’t have a mustang but my BMW 328is w/ snow tires handle alot better than my focus w/ all season. So it can be done.
