Is working for a car dealer much profitable in the U.S than own auto repair shop?

Have just migrated to the U.S. and looking for jobs as Master service Tech. Do you think working for a dealer is worth than setting up and operating my own service & repair auto shop would rather be more profitable? Would appreciate great inputs from all the experienced guys.Thanks.

Lots of regulation in the US. Have to deal with Environmental rules as well as rent and other expenses like liability insurance, plus bill collection, etc. Lots of less headaches if you work for a garage first, then at least you will know what you are getting into plus you will have benefits like health insurance etc.
