when you buff with ...
when you buff with a polish all you do is cut your clear coat so all of the clear coat is at an even level meaning no swirl marks

wetsanding cuts scratches into your clearcoat usually done so you can either remove a scratch or remove orange peel. however you should usually buff it out after so your clear coat doesn't appear scratched but at an even level again

no bufing will not affect paint unless you push the buffer down too hard or especially if u use a rotary buffer and keep it in one spot

the clear is smooth ...
the clear is smooth but not 100% smooth.. without wet sanding u will see some waves and what not when u look at it in certain light.. when you wet sand it, it will be perfect. more work but worth it for a awesome paint job.

Haha, dont worry. ...
Haha, dont worry. we were all new at this at one point or another. well, except Paul Dalton, he was born doing this.

Wet-sanding isn't really done to make it shiny. Actually when you wetsand it gets very dull because you are putting a bunch of very tiny scratches in the clear, but you polish it to a mirror. usually its done to level it out so you dont have orange peel but also is used if the paint is in really bad shape.

personally, i just use it for leveling the surface.
